The YMCA of Central Virginia has announced the appointment of Michael (Mike) Cassidy as the organization’s new Chief Executive Officer, effective mid-March 2024. With a wealth of experience and a proven track record of cause-driven leadership, Mike is committed to bringing dynamic, servant leadership to our YMCA and community.

Mr. Cassidy brings over three decades of successful YMCA experience to his new role as Chief Executive Officer, having most recently served as the Chief Operating Officer at the East Bay YMCA in San Francisco, CA.

During his time at the East Bay YMCA, Mr. Cassidy spearheaded a $10 million capital investment strategy to create more inclusive and sustainable spaces, serving the diverse needs of both members and the surrounding communities to foster a welcoming environment for all. Mirroring the YMCA’s dedication to diversity and inclusion, he developed leadership teams that reflected their community, addressing the unique needs of volunteers, staff, and the community. Through strategic planning, he successfully increased accessibility and participation in youth development and wellness programs, overseeing five branches, thirty after-school sites, an overnight summer camp, and 25 Head Start Early Learning Centers. Under Mike’s leadership and guidance, thousands of individuals gained access to various life-changing opportunities, from premier state-of-the-art community health and wellness programs to family-friendly offerings.

“We are delighted to welcome Mr. Cassidy to the YMCA of Central Virginia family. His strategic leadership style and his passion for community service aligns perfectly with our mission to empower individuals and strengthen the bonds of our community. We look forward to the positive impact he will undoubtedly make,” said Patti McCue, YMCA of Central Virginia Board Member and Chair of the CEO Search and Transition Committee.

Mike is excited about joining the local YMCA: “I am honored to join such a reputable, impactful team and organization. The YMCA plays a vital role in building strong communities. I am eager to work with the dedicated staff, volunteers, and community partners to continue making a positive difference in the lives of those we serve.”

Mike will be joined by his wife, Lynn Cassidy, who works in school administration. He and Lynn look forward to making the Central Virginia area their home, getting to know their new neighbors and friends, and exploring and experiencing all the area offers.
