In 2001, Melissa was a waitress looking for a day job. A friend told her about a screenprinting company that was hiring. “What is screenprinting?” was her first question! With no experience, no college degree, not even a high school diploma (Her senior year was rough, but she did get her GED), she convinced him that she could learn, and he hired her.
She started with a secretarial position, then learned to run the embroidery machines and screenprint. Eventually she did everything except pay the bills!
So, she felt confident that she could run the business when the owner retired, and she took over ownership in 2012.
In a predominantly male run industry, Melissa is not intimidated. Being able to multi-task and pay close attention to detail (common traits in women) work to her advantage. She is proud to have five other awesome women employees as well as one part time male.
