In 1968, Fire & Safety Equipment Co. began as a family business with just a couple of employees and a simple mission: protect people and property with honesty and dependable service. Nearly six decades later, that same mission still drives the company, only now it spans five states and a team of 40 dedicated professionals.
Though the company has grown significantly, it remains family run. Under the leadership of President Donna Lawson and her daughter, Vice President Emily Mullins, Fire & Safety Equipment Co. continues to reflect the values on which it was founded: hard work, integrity, and accountability. Their leadership has fostered a culture where honesty isn’t just a promise to customers, but also an expectation within the team.
The company supplies high-quality gear and equipment to fire/rescue departments and first responder agencies, ensuring protection for themselves with dependable equipment and tools to protect their communities. Fire & Safety also offers comprehensive fire protection services, including fire extinguisher sales and service, kitchen suppression systems, hood cleaning, sprinkler systems, CPR, and OSHA training. What began as a local operation now serves clients across VA, NC, W Va, MD, and DE.
Today, 14 women are part of the 40-person workforce, helping lead the company forward in an industry traditionally dominated by men. Yet growth has never meant losing sight of its foundation.
