The Skyline Grill

After the downtown restaurant revival of the past several years, there’s no shortage of unique spots to grab a drink at the end of the business day in the Hill City. But just when you thought you had your favorite happy hour destination picked out—the Skyline Grill opened up.

Located on the roof of the newly re-opened Virginian Hotel on Church Street, Skyline is Lynchburg’s only rooftop dining experience. According to hotel developers, the project was definitely complicated. “The rooftop addition was structurally very challenging,” said George Stanley. “From a historic-approval point, we were able to get that rooftop addition approved and we were extremely fortunate.”

The seating is relaxed yet functional—with a mix of tables, sofas, multiple high-top areas and even a fire pit surrounded by chairs. The modern décor and finishes include glass, garage-style doors that open onto the patio. Top it all off with captivating views of the downtown area and you have a restaurant with a “big city” feel.

On the menu, Skyline features plenty of shareable foods that are perfect for those post-work hunger pangs: we suggest the brick oven baked flatbreads, the Brussels sprouts and the crab and corn fritters. Wash it all down with a drink from their signature cocktail list, such as the Skyline Gold Rush (Bulleit Bourbon, lemon and orange juice, honey syrup, lemon peel).

If the view from your office is lacking, be sure to put “drinks at Skyline” on your Outlook calendar this month. By looking down at the thriving city you call home, while relaxing with friends or co-workers, you will be recharged.
